Sydney Showground was truly delighted to work with the Hannover Fairs team on the innovative showcase that was CeMAT Australia in July 2023.
Taking place in The Dome CeMAT showcased the standards and future direction of logistics and warehousing in the Asia Pacific. Over 4,500 trade visitors came through the door to see what the 140 exhibitors had on offer.
It was a rare glimpse into normality in December 2020 when Sydney Showground welcomed 11,150 guests to the Sydney Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo (PBCE), one of the largest events to take place at the precinct since March that year.
By dispersing crowds through strategically planned session times and additional venue space thanks to Sydney Showground’s COVID-19 support options, PBCE Sydney could reach its desirable attendance figures and be one of the first organisations to bring exhibitions back to life in Sydney under NSW Government event safety guidelines.

The Music & Meat Festival
“Every single staff member from the Showgrounds we dealt with was polite, accommodating, professional and supportive in helping us make Meatstock a huge success. I was very impressed with how you operated as an organisation, much like a family would, and I just wanted to say thanks. We are very happy with the venue choice we made for this festival and look forward to working with you again in the future.” Jay Beaumont – Promoter of Meatstock
Meatstock is aimed at meat and music enthusiasts and for two days in February, 2016, it would be held in Sydney for the first time. Organisers planned to merge competitions, exhibitions and live music to create a unique and unforgettable environment.
Competitions included the A&E Sydney Barbecue Wars, the largest barbecue competition ever held in Australia.
Exhibitors specialising in barbecue equipment would include Weber, Hudson Meats, Everdure and many more.
Live music boasted such names as The Beards, Sahara Beck and Henry Wagons.
The most challenging component of the event was the preparation and serving of the dinner. Over 12,000 meals had to be served and cleared within two hours. Chinese speaking staff were required in order to discuss meal options, which didn’t only include a high-end, alternate-serve menu but also a complex series of options including vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free, nut free and halal. Essentially the client required the equivalent of four function menus to be offered to 4,000 people within the one event.
Communication during the workshop in the Dome, before dinner, was enhanced through the use of one of the largest screens in the Southern Hemisphere.
Dining room preparation was an enormous challenge. Over 65,000 pieces of equipment were sourced to furnish the room. Kitchens were custom built including ovens, hot boxes, heat lamps, plate warmers, trays, pots, pans etc.
Chinese-speaking staff were sourced and peppered throughout the serving team. Other staff, carrying signs to identify themselves as translators, also walked the floor.
The event space was broken up into five areas, each managed by a specific team. This meant Sydney Showground staff were able to break the event down into manageable sections, creating greater efficiencies and results.
The two-day event attracted 10,503 ticket holders and 1,564 VIPs, competitors, media, expo staff and sponsors. Reactions and feedback were overwhelmingly positive, with the organisers keen to work with Sydney Showground again.
Workshop and Gala Dinner
“Nu Skin was a challenging but very rewarding project and we are very pleased with the outcome. We have received lots of positive feedback and trust you have received the same for your contribution. Our team really enjoyed working with Sydney Showground on this project and want to thank you for your patience and professionalism.” - Blake Harris, Triumph Leisure Solutions
High-performing staff members of the Asian arm of direct selling company Nu Skin were rewarded with a trip to Sydney. Partners of those who received the incentive were also invited. The largest event during their trip was a workshop and gala dinner for 4,000 people, both hosted by Sydney Showground.

Service times were even faster than Sydney Showground staff had planned for. Entrees were served in 17 minutes. Mains were brought out in 26 minutes and dessert in just 18 minutes. The entire gala dinner for 4,000 diners was served and cleared in less than two hours.
Clients, including several event management organisations as well as their contractors, were thrilled with the outcome.
In 2018 Jeunesse Global chose Sydney Showground for its 2 night Gala Dinner event including 6,600 meals and two full nights of entertainment involving indoor pyrotechnics.

Exhibition case study
The EB Games Expo is Australia's largest video game expo, bringing together developers, publishers and vendors of games with the gamers who play them. It offers a platform for the local gaming industry to showcase its talents as well as providing an opportunity for global gaming companies such as Sony and Microsoft to launch new consoles.
EB Games began its life as a much smaller exhibition in Brisbane hosted in a space of approximately 10,000 square metres. The client identified the opportunity to launch EB Games Expo into the much larger Sydney market by moving to Sydney Showground. A key challenge was to stage the EB Games store managers' conference, 900-person gala dinner and trade show, and then rapidly convert multiple venues for a three-day consumer-focused exhibition. Another challenge was that the event was relatively unknown in the Sydney market, making it difficult to predict attendance levels.
Thanks to a rigorous planning process, our experienced event planners and managers were able to achieve a fast turnaround of the conference, which finished at 4pm on Thursday, into the large-scale consumer exhibition which opened on Friday morning at 8am. Our logistics, floor management and catering teams received extensive briefings to ensure all venues were seamlessly converted, with all conference equipment removed and replaced with catering concessions and ticketing areas. We invested significant resources into planning for the possibility of large crowds at the consumer exhibition, which eventuated on the day. The event has grown into one of the largest consumer exhibitions in Sydney and each year utilises more of Sydney Showgrounds variety of indoor and outdoor venues.
